The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced a ‘political and electoral unity’ with two other parties, aimed at upholding the commitments made during the July uprising and shaping a new political arrangement ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election.

The alliance was announced on Sunday, December 7, at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters Unity’s (DRU) Shafikul Milon auditorium.

The three-party alliance consists of the NCP, Rashtra Sanskar Andolon and Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party). Organisers said more parties may be added to the alliance. However, although representatives of Gono Odhikar Parishad were expected, none were present. Candidates nominated by the alliance will contest the upcoming parliamentary election using a single electoral symbol.

Speakers at the press conference included NCP convener Nahid Islam, member secretary Akhtar Hossain, joint member secretary Saeed Mustafiz, chief organiser for the northern region Sarzis Alam, AB Party chairman Mojibur Rahman Monju, senior vice-chairman Major Abdus Wahab Minar retired, Rashtra Sankar Andolon president Advocate Hasnat Kaiyum, and secretary general Syed Hasib Uddin, among others.

AB Party chairman Mojibur Rahman Monju said the initiative marks a beginning towards building the political structure the nation now expects.
