Allu Arjun's biggest project 'Raaka' gears up for grand release in 2027
After the global success of the 'Pushpa' franchise, Allu Arjun is preparing for what is being billed as the most ambitious project of his career—'Raaka', a mega-budget action spectacle directed by 'Jawan' filmmaker Atlee.
While the film remains in production, the latest updates suggest audiences may have to wait until 2027 for its theatrical release.
Initially announced under the working title AA22xA6, the film was officially unveiled as Raaka on April 8, coinciding with Allu Arjun's birthday. The title reveal was accompanied by a striking first-look poster featuring the actor in a dramatically transformed appearance, with a scarred face and glowing eyes, hinting at a fierce and mysterious character.
Released under the tagline "Make Way for the King," the announcement marked the beginning of the film's promotional campaign.
Director Atlee has described Raaka as more than just another film, calling it the realization of a dream he has nurtured for nearly 18 years.
Backed by Sun Pictures, the high-profile project boasts a star-studded cast, including Deepika Padukone, Janhvi Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur.
Industry reports suggest the film will weave together two parallel timelines—one set in the distant past and the other in the present day—with both narratives converging at the heart of the story.
Rumours of a special cameo by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan have also continued to circulate, although the filmmakers have yet to confirm the reports.
Following the record-breaking worldwide success of Pushpa 2, which reportedly grossed around $210 million globally, expectations for Raaka are exceptionally high. The film is being mounted as a large-scale visual spectacle featuring extensive visual effects created with the support of internationally acclaimed VFX teams.
Industry sources also suggest it could become one of the most expensive productions ever made in Indian cinema.
Production is currently underway, with earlier footage now moving through the visual effects pipeline. The next phase of filming is expected to include Allu Arjun's introductory sequences and several key portions of the film.
According to reports, Allu Arjun has requested director Atlee and the production team to complete principal photography by December this year, as he is expected to begin work on his next project with director Lokesh Kanagaraj soon afterward.
While no official release date has been announced, the film is expected to undergo an extensive post-production process because of its heavy reliance on visual effects. Negotiations related to digital rights and other commercial agreements are also reportedly ongoing.
Although earlier reports suggested a theatrical release later this year, the latest industry updates indicate that Raaka is now more likely to arrive in cinemas in 2027. However, audiences will have to wait for an official announcement from the filmmakers to confirm the release schedule.
