Another oil tanker heads to Bangladesh amid stable supply chain

The oil tanker MT Ninemia is on its way to Bangladesh carrying another 100,000 tonnes of crude oil from the United Arab Emirates . The vessel is expected to arrive at Chattogram Port on Wednesday, June 17.

Commodore Mahmudul Malek, Managing Director of the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC), which is overseeing the tanker, confirmed the development. The vessel is carrying crude oil from Fujairah Port in the UAE .

This marks the second trip of the MT Ninemia to Bangladesh within two months. The same tanker made its first run on May 6, arriving at the Kutubdia channel with 100,000 tonnes of crude oil from Saudi Arabia's Yanbu Port . In mid-May, another tanker, the MT Fossil, also brought a 100,000-tonne shipment from the UAE .

The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) imports these crude shipments for processing at the country's only state-owned refinery, Eastern Refinery Limited (ERL). The arrivals come after a prolonged supply disruption that began in February following the outbreak of the Iran war and the subsequent closure of the Strait of Hormuz . The shortage had forced ERL to nearly halt production .
