Another rape allegation in Kolkata college sparks widespread outrage

West Bengal is once again in turmoil over a fresh allegation of gang rape at a college in Kolkata. The incident reportedly took place at a law college in South Kolkata. This comes shortly after the controversy surrounding a rape case at R.G. Kar Medical College, sparking widespread anger across the state over repeated incidents of sexual violence inside educational institutions.
According to police, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. One of the accused is currently a student of the college, while the other two are former students. The complainant, who is also a student at the same institution, alleged that on the evening of Wednesday (June 25), the accused called her to the college campus. Between 7:30 pm and 9 pm, she was allegedly gang-raped inside the college building. The accused also reportedly threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident.
The student later filed a written complaint at Kasba Police Station. Based on the complaint, police initially detained two suspects for questioning. Following their statements, the main accused was also arrested. The victim has undergone a medical examination at a government hospital in Kolkata.
On Friday evening, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma and Additional CP Santosh Pandey visited the crime scene. A team of forensic experts also collected evidence from the location.
Allegations have also surfaced linking the accused to a political party. Opposition leaders have claimed that such crimes are being committed under the protection of the ruling party. Protests have already begun on the streets demanding justice.
