Apology video of woman accused of abusing Modi goes viral

A video showing a young woman apologising for allegedly making abusive remarks about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention as police continue investigating the case.

In the video, the woman, dressed in a striped T-shirt, is seen with folded hands expressing remorse and apologising to the public. She says she was influenced by other participants during a student protest and made "objectionable and inappropriate" comments directed at the prime minister.

"I deeply regret what I said. I apologise to everyone," she says in the video.

The woman claims she is 15 years old, while the First Information Report (FIR) filed against her reportedly lists her age as 25, creating a discrepancy that police have yet to clarify.

Describing the incident as the biggest mistake of her life, she says she is ashamed of her actions.

"What I did is unforgivable. I consider it the first and last mistake of my life. I am deeply embarrassed and seek forgiveness from everyone," she says.

The controversy began on Wednesday (July 29) after a complaint was filed alleging that the woman made offensive remarks about the prime minister during a demonstration. Police in Noida registered a Zero FIR before transferring the case to Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi for further investigation.

The apology video surfaced hours after Modi released a video message on Friday night (July 31), in which he condemned the use of abusive language in public discourse while urging restraint in responding to those responsible.

Without naming the woman directly, Modi referred to recent protests at Jantar Mantar, saying some "misguided young people" had used language unacceptable in a civilised society and had even insulted his late mother.

"Abuse can never solve any problem," the prime minister said.

Rather than calling for punitive action, Modi urged people to respond with patience and guidance.

"Those who made such remarks have gone astray. They deserve direction, not hatred or revenge," he said, adding that young people should be given the opportunity to learn from their mistakes instead of being subjected to harassment.

Concluding his message, Modi appealed for forgiveness and unity, saying the country should focus on reconciliation rather than division while working together for national progress.
