Apple issues urgent warning for older iPhone, iPad users
Apple has issued an urgent security alert for users of older iPhone and iPad devices following reports of a powerful spyware attack known as “DarkSword” targeting devices worldwide.
While newer, updated devices remain protected, older models running outdated software are considered highly vulnerable.
In response, Apple has released iOS 18.7.7 and iPadOS 18.7.7, urging users to install the updates immediately.
Security researchers warn that the DarkSword spyware is particularly dangerous as it can infiltrate devices without requiring any file download or installation. Simply visiting a compromised website could expose users to data theft.
The spyware has already been used in cyberattacks across several countries, including China, Malaysia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Ukraine.
Concerns have intensified after the hacking tool was reportedly leaked online, making it more accessible to cybercriminals.
Apple said all devices running older versions of iOS and iPadOS are potential targets and advised users to update their software promptly to mitigate security risks.
