Apple is reportedly testing a 200-megapixel sensor for future iPhone models, according to speculation in the tech world.

A post on Chinese social media platform Weibo by 'Digital Chat Station' claimed Apple is testing a 200-megapixel sensor measuring 1/1.2 inches. This larger sensor would allow better low-light photography and improved dynamic range. The new sensor could be used as the main camera, while ultra-wide and telephoto cameras may remain at 48 megapixels.

The sensor may debut on the iPhone 19 Pro, Apple's second-generation foldable phone, or a special edition for the iPhone's 20th anniversary. A Morgan Stanley report in January also said Apple was working on 200-megapixel camera technology, which could hit the market by 2028.

Several smartphone makers have already released 200-megapixel cameras, while Apple's latest iPhone 17 Pro Max has a 48-megapixel main sensor.
