Apu Biswas returns to big screen with 'Shikar'

Once upon a time, Eid releases seemed incomplete without Apu Biswas's presence. Through her acting and success, she had carved a distinct niche for herself in Dhallywood. Though her presence on the big screen has faded over time, the familiar face remains in the hearts of her fans. After a long break, Apu Biswas is now back in front of the camera with a new film, 'Shikar' – as if writing a story of her return in the old light.

Shooting for the film began on August 9 in the tourist city of Pokhara, Nepal. Before filming began in the scenic location surrounded by mountains and blue skies, a muhurat ceremony was held. Newcomer actor Murtaza Polash offered prayers for the film's success. Kolkata actor Shyam Bhattacharya then broke a coconut to mark the formal start of shooting.

Directed by Kamruzzaman Roman and produced by Reza Films, 'Shikar' features artists and technicians from Bangladesh, India and Nepal. On the first day of shooting, Apu Biswas and Murtaza Polash were joined by Borda Mithu, and Kolkata actors Rajatabh Dutt and Shyam Bhattacharya. The film's shooting will continue for about a month across various hilly locations in Nepal.

Apu Biswas said she joined 'Shikar' because of the scope for performance in the story. In her words, she agreed to take on the character after the director narrated the story and she saw the opportunity to perform. She also expressed excitement about the debut of newcomer Murtaza Polash on the big screen, hoping audiences would appreciate the film's story.

Though he has acted in television dramas, 'Shikar' marks Murtaza Polash's debut in cinema. He had prepared extensively for his character over a long period. His pairing with Apu Biswas and the presence of popular Kolkata artistes have further heightened audience interest in the film.

Apu Biswas's last released film was 'Trap', directed by Deen Islam in 2024. Though no new film was released since, that hiatus is now ending. Besides 'Shikar', she also has 'Durbar' and 'Secret' in the pipeline. 'Durbar' features Sajal opposite her, while 'Secret' stars Adar Azad. 'Shikar' is planned for an Eid release next year, though the final date has yet to be announced.
