Jordan reignited their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group J contest after Mousa Al Tamari pulled a goal back in the second half, though Argentina continued to hold a 2-1 advantage.

Fielding a largely experimental lineup, the reigning world champions dominated the opening stages with superior possession and attacking intent. Their control was rewarded in the 19th minute when Giovani Lo Celso finished off a well-crafted move to give Argentina the lead.

Lionel Scaloni's side doubled its advantage just before halftime after Julián Álvarez was fouled inside the penalty area. Lautaro Martínez made no mistake from the spot, calmly converting the penalty for his first goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to put Argentina 2-0 ahead.

Jordan emerged with renewed purpose after the break and adopted a more aggressive approach. Their persistence paid off in the 55th minute when Mousa Al Tamari latched onto an attack down the right flank and fired past the Argentine goalkeeper, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

The goal injected fresh belief into the Jordanian side, which began pressing higher and creating more attacking opportunities. Al Tamari remained the focal point of Jordan's offense, testing Argentina's backline with his pace and movement.

Argentina responded by reasserting control through patient possession and quick passing in midfield, looking to restore their two-goal cushion. Despite enjoying the majority of the ball, the South American champions faced a far more competitive challenge after the interval as Jordan continued to push for an equalizer.
