Arijit Singh announces pause in playback singing career
Indian music icon Arijit Singh has announced he will no longer take on new playback singing projects, surprising fans across the globe.
Sharing the news Tuesday night on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account, the singer emphasised that while he is stepping back from playback work, he is not leaving music altogether.
Arijit explained that years of performing similar songs have led to creative fatigue, prompting him to seek variety in his music. “I get bored very easily,” he wrote, noting that live performances allow him to reinterpret familiar tracks differently each time.
He also expressed a desire to explore new musical styles and draw inspiration from emerging talent.
The singer expressed heartfelt gratitude to his fans for their years of support, assuring them that previously committed projects will be completed. He described this decision as a step toward personal growth, aiming to evolve both as a student of music and as a passionate musician.
Arijit’s career-defining moment came with the song Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2. Since then, he has delivered hits across multiple languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Kannada, lending his voice to over 300 films.
The National Film Award and numerous Filmfare Awards testify to his musical impact, while streaming platforms like Spotify and YouTube rank him among the world’s most-listened-to Indian artists.
Though his announcement has stirred discussion in the music industry, fans are reassured that Arijit Singh remains committed to music—he is simply embarking on a new creative journey beyond playback singing.
