Army will fully support EC for conducting fair elections: Army Chief

Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has said that the army will fully cooperate with the Election Commission to ensure a fair election. He made the remark on Sunday (November 23) at an event organised at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment on the occasion of Armed Forces Day.

The Army Chief said the Bangladesh Army is engaged in maintaining law and order in the country. The nation is heading toward an election, and the army will duly assist the government in that election. The army will cooperate with the Election Commission to ensure a fair and proper election.

He further said that following the path shown by the freedom fighters, the Bangladesh Army will continue working in the interest of the country and for the welfare of its people.

At the event, the Army Chief awarded medals to 64 army personnel for acts of valour and distinguished contributions, and honoured 75 freedom fighter families. Among them, for contributions in 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 fiscal years, nine received the Army Medal, 17 received the Outstanding Service Medal, and 38 received the Distinguished Service Medal.
