Army will provide full support in election: Army Chief
The Bangladesh Army will provide full support to ensure a free, fair and peaceful 13th national parliamentary election, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman said on January 22.
He made the remarks at a coordination meeting held at the Chattogram Circuit House on Thursday noon in connection with the upcoming election.
The matter was later confirmed in a press release published on the Chattogram District Administration’s Facebook page in the afternoon. Chattogram District Administration staff officer and assistant commissioner Md Moinul Hasan also confirmed the issue, while a separate press release was issued by ISPR.
At the meeting, the army chief said the Bangladesh Army would extend all-out cooperation to meet the nation’s expectation of a free, fair and peaceful election.
Emphasising the need to maintain a cordial working environment, he said all election-related departments must work through close coordination and effective cooperation. He also stressed mutual support in maintaining law and order and carrying out administrative activities during the election period.
At the meeting, Chattogram district administrator and returning officer Md Zahidul Islam Miah gave a PowerPoint presentation outlining the overall preparations and existing challenges in Chattogram district for the 13th national parliamentary election and the 2026 referendum. After the presentation, the army chief expressed satisfaction with the overall electoral environment in Chattogram.
The meeting was attended by Chattogram divisional commissioner Dr Md Ziauddin, Chattogram Metropolitan Police commissioner Hasib Aziz, DIG of Chattogram Range Md Ahsan Habib Palash, Chattogram superintendent of police Md Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan, along with other senior officials.
District administrators and superintendents of police from the three hill districts, as well as senior officials from the divisional and district administrations and the armed forces, were also present at the meeting.
