Arrest warrant issued for Mehazabien on fraud charges
A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant for popular model and actress Mehazabien Chowdhury over allegations of fraud involving a family business. The warrant was issued against her and her brother Alissan Chowdhury in a case accusing them of misappropriating Tk 27 lakh, making threats and intimidation under the pretext of making the complainant a partner in the family business.
Court sources said Executive Magistrate Court 3 of Dhaka, presided over by Judge Afroza Tania, issued the arrest warrant on November 10 after they failed to appear on the scheduled date. December 18 has been set for submitting the warrant execution report.
According to the case statement, using long-standing acquaintance, Mehazabien lured the complainant with promises of making him a partner in a new family business and took Tk 27 lakh in cash and through bKash. But when no business was launched for a long time, the complainant demanded the money back, which they kept delaying with various excuses.
The complaint also states that on February 11, when the complainant again asked for the money, he was told to come to a restaurant beside Hatirjheel on March 16. When he went, Mehazabien, her brother and several others verbally abused him using obscene language and issued threats. When he demanded the money again, he was even threatened with death.
Later, when he went to Bhatara Police Station, he was advised to file the case in court. He then filed a case under sections 107 and 117(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure in the Executive Magistrate Court.
