The attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, a potential candidate in the Dhaka-8 constituency and spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha, will not have a major impact on the upcoming national parliamentary election, election commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has said. He added that the election would be held on schedule. He made the remarks in an interview with a private television channel on December 13. Abdur Rahmanel Masud said that if isolated incidents create fear about holding elections, it becomes difficult to reach the desired goal. He stressed the need to further strengthen law and order. It may be recalled that Osman Hadi was critically injured after being shot by assailants in the capital’s Bijoynagar area on Friday. His condition remains critical.

ঢাকা-৮ আসনের সম্ভাব্য প্রার্থী ও ইনকিলাব মঞ্চের মুখপাত্র শরিফ ওসমান হাদির ওপর হামলা আসন্ন জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে বড় কোনও প্রভাব ফেলবে না। নির্দিষ্ট সময়েই নির্বাচন হবে বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন নির্বাচন কমিশনার (ইসি) আব্দুর রহমানেল মাছউদ। শনিবার (১৩ ডিসেম্বর) একটি বেসরকারি টেলিভিশনকে দেয়া সাক্ষাৎকারে তিনি এসব কথা বলেন। আব্দুর রহমানেল মাছউদের মতে, বিচ্ছিন্ন কিছু ঘটনায় যদি নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠান নিয়ে শঙ্কা তৈরি হয়, তাহলে অভিষ্ট লক্ষ্যে পৌঁছানো কঠিন। আইনশৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতি আরও জোরদার করতে হবে। প্রসঙ্গত, গতকাল শুক্রবার রাজধানীর বিজয়নগরে দুষ্কৃতিকারীদের গুলিতে গুরুতর আহত হন শরিফ ওসমান হাদি। তার অবস্থা এখনও সংকটাপন্ন। জানা গেছে, আগামী ৪৮ থেকে ৭২ ঘণ্টা তাকে নিবিড় পর্যবেক্ষণে রাখা হবে। যদিও এখনও তা আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে চিকিৎসকরা গণমাধ্যমকে জানাননি। হাদির চিকিৎসায় যে মেডিকেল বোর্ড গঠন করা হয়েছে, সকালে সেই বোর্ডের মাধ্যমে তাকে নিরীক্ষণ করা হয়। সেখানে তার অবস্থা এখনও শঙ্কামুক্ত নয় বলে জানানো হয়। বিষয়টি হাদির ভাইকেও জানান চিকিৎসকরা।
