Australia have named a strong XI for the opening Test against Bangladesh, with experienced campaigners Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon returning to the side.

Hazlewood has been preferred to Scott Boland, reuniting Australia's formidable pace trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Hazlewood. The selection gives the hosts a wealth of experience as Cummins' side returns to Test cricket after an eight-month break.

Australia captain Cummins confirmed the XI on the eve of the match and indicated that Boland remains an important part of the team's plans despite missing out in Darwin. The 36-year-old played a key role throughout last summer's Ashes, stepping up in the absence of several frontline bowlers.

Lyon also returns after missing the latter stages of the Ashes with a hamstring injury. Cameron Green and Beau Webster have both been included as pace-bowling all-rounders, giving Australia additional depth and balance in the attack.

The first Test will be played from August 13 to 17 at Marrara Stadium in Darwin. The second and final Test is scheduled for August 22 to 26 at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.

Australia XI

Jake Weatherald, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Beau Webster, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins (captain), Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.
