Australian High Commissioner meets PM’s Defence Adviser

Susan Ryle, Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser AKM Shamsul Islam on Tuesday (June 2).

The meeting was held at the office of the Defence Adviser at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment. The High Commissioner was accompanied by a three-member delegation.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged greetings and discussed ways to further strengthen the existing bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Australia, with particular emphasis on defence cooperation, the exchange of professional experiences, and potential areas for future military collaboration.

Both sides highlighted the importance of deepening and expanding the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries through broader and more multifaceted engagement.

The discussions also focused on enhancing defence and security cooperation, training opportunities, capacity building, professional development and expanding communication and exchanges between the armed forces of the two nations.

The two sides underscored the importance of continuing constructive cooperation in promoting regional and global peace, stability and security.

They also expressed optimism about advancing bilateral ties to a more effective and productive level based on mutual trust, respect and shared interests.

According to participants, the courtesy meeting is expected to contribute to further strengthening the existing friendship, mutual confidence and strategic cooperation between Bangladesh and Australia.
