Avoid these 5 mistakes right after waking up

The first few minutes after waking up determine how the rest of the day will unfold—whether you'll feel energetic or sluggish. But without realising it, we often do things that don't allow our body to wake up properly. Let's take a look at what to avoid right after waking up.

Don't pick up your phone immediately
Grabbing the phone right after waking up to check Facebook, messages or emails has become a habit for almost everyone. But if hundreds of notifications and worrying news flood your mind before you're even fully awake, it can make you restless from the start. So, keep the phone away for a while and start your day on your own terms.

Don't jump out of bed suddenly
After lying in one position all night, getting up abruptly can make you dizzy and unsteady. So, sit up in bed first, move your arms and legs, stretch a little, and then slowly stand up.

Don't reach straight for tea or coffee on an empty stomach
For many, the day doesn't start without morning tea or coffee. But having caffeine on an empty stomach right away can increase acidity or heartburn. So, drink a glass of water first—save the tea or coffee for breakfast.

Don't skip water
Since you haven't had anything to drink all night, your body is mildly dehydrated. So, drink a glass of plain or lukewarm water after waking up—it will refresh you. But there's no need to force yourself to gulp down a large amount; listen to your body's needs.

Don't keep the room dark
Keeping the curtains drawn and the room dark prevents your brain from receiving the signal to wake up. So, open the window and let the morning light in. If possible, step out onto the balcony or take a short walk outside—you'll feel more refreshed and alert.

So, how should you start your morning?
After waking up, sit quietly for a moment, then drink water and open the window. Light stretching, a short walk or a few deep breaths will help your body and mind gradually wake up. Don't rush—give your body a little time, and you'll see that the entire day will feel more organised and pleasant.
