Bangladesh announce squad for Women’s T20 World Cup
Bangladesh women's national cricket team have announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England, with Nigar Sultana Joty set to lead the side and Nahida Akter named as vice-captain.
The squad was announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday (May 10), while the Tigress’ preparation camp is scheduled to begin on May 12.
One notable change from the squad that faced Sri Lanka women's national cricket team is the omission of Sharmin Sultana, with Taj Nehar earning a place in the final squad.
Bangladesh head into the tournament after a disappointing home series against Sri Lanka and will now aim to regroup ahead of the global event.
As part of their preparations, the team will leave for Edinburgh on May 25 to participate in a tri-nation series involving hosts Scotland women's national cricket team and Netherlands women's national cricket team. The series is being viewed as a crucial phase of their World Cup preparation.
Following the tri-series, Bangladesh will travel to Loughborough for official warm-up matches ahead of the tournament, focusing on adapting to conditions and finalising combinations.
Bangladesh have been placed in a challenging Group A alongside six-time champions Australia women's national cricket team, India women's national cricket team, Pakistan women's national cricket team, South Africa women's national cricket team and the Netherlands.
The tournament will begin on June 12 at Edgbaston Cricket Ground with hosts England women's national cricket team taking on Sri Lanka. Bangladesh will start their campaign against the Netherlands on June 14 at the same venue.
Bangladesh squad: Nigar Sultana Joty (captain), Nahida Akter (vice-captain), Dilara Akter, Sobhana Mostary, Fahima Khatun, Sharmin Akter Supta, Ritu Moni, Swarna Akter, Rabeya Khan, Marufa Akter, Fariha Islam Trisna, Sultana Khatun, Sanjida Akter Meghla, Juwairiya Ferdous and Taj Nehar.
