Bangladesh, Azerbaijan sign visa waiver deal

Bangladesh and Azerbaijan have signed an agreement to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports, easing official travel between the two countries.

The agreement was signed in New York on Tuesday (September 22) on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov signed the deal on behalf of their respective countries.

According to Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry, the agreement covers diplomatic and official passport holders. It is expected to simplify travel for government officials and diplomats and reduce visa-related formalities for official visits.

The deal could also facilitate greater diplomatic engagement and more frequent exchanges between officials of the two countries.

Khalilur Rahman is serving as president of the 81st UN General Assembly, and several bilateral meetings and diplomatic engagements are being held on the sidelines of the session.

The agreement marks a step toward facilitating official-level travel and strengthening diplomatic exchanges between Bangladesh and Azerbaijan.
