Bangladesh secured gold in the men’s compound team event at the Asian Archery Tournament, defeating Vietnam in the final in Thailand's Bangkok on Friday (March 27).

The win comes a day after the national football team fell short against the same opponent.

The Bangladeshi trio—Himu Bachhar, Rakib Nawaz, and Aishwarya—scored 231 points, outpacing Vietnam’s 225 to claim the championship with a six-point margin.

Last year, Bangladesh had won gold in the men’s recurve individual event, with archer Abdur Rahman Alif taking top honors. This year, the team failed to reach the semifinals in individual or mixed events, making the compound men’s team title the country’s sole triumph at the tournament.

Most of Bangladesh’s previous archery successes were in the recurve category, but the federation has recently emphasized the compound division. As a result, the team celebrated its first gold in this category.

Bangladesh Archery Federation and Asian Archery Federation president Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chopel announced separate cash rewards for the medal winners.
