Bangladesh Bank’s new directive on Bangla QR transactions

Bangladesh Bank has directed that money from Bangla QR code-based payments must be credited instantly to the respective merchant’s account from October 1 to make digital transactions more popular and customer-friendly.

The circular in this regard was issued by the Payment Systems Department-1 of Bangladesh Bank on Thursday (September 17).

The circular stated that from October 1, 2026, money from all Bangla QR code-based payments must be credited instantly to the respective merchant’s account. From the same day, the instructions given in the circular of the Payment Systems Department dated November 24, 2025 will be considered cancelled.

Besides, banks, mobile financial services (MFS), payment service providers (PSP) and payment system operators (PSO) have been directed to make the Bangla QR payment icon visible in a specific place of their mobile apps.

In this case, the icon must be displayed according to the logo determined in the Bangladesh Bank circular of January 6, 2021. Arrangement for payment through Bangla QR image upload along with Bangla QR scan must be introduced by October 31.

Within the same deadline, the facility of making payments by scanning Bangla QR from the mobile app must be introduced for all savings and current account holders including card account holders.

Bangladesh Bank has issued these directives under Section 18(2) of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2024.
