Bangladesh beat Netherlands in women's T20 WC
A half-century from Juairiya Ferdous and a strong team bowling performance helped Bangladesh Women secure a six-wicket victory against first-time participants Netherlands in Match 5 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at Edgbaston on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Ferdous, opening for Bangladesh, scored 50 runs off 33 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. A notable 56-run partnership between Sharmin Akhter, who made 37, and Shorna Akter, who scored 18 not out, was instrumental in the successful chase.
The Bangladesh bowling attack saw Marufa Akter take two wickets, while Fariha Trisna, Shanjida Akter Meghla, Rabeya Khan, and Ritu Moni each claimed one wicket to limit the Netherlands to 139 for eight in their 20 overs.
Chasing 140 to win, Bangladesh started steadily with an assertive 67-run opening stand between Ferdous and Dilara Akter, the latter scoring 26 off 23 balls. Netherlands bowler Caroline de Lange briefly regained momentum by taking two wickets in the eighth over, dismissing Ferdous and captain Nigar Sultana, but Bangladesh had established a strong foundation by then.
Following Dilara Akter’s dismissal in the 11th over and a run out of Sobhana Mostary at 85 for four in the 12th over, the unbeaten 56-run partnership between Sharmin and Shorna ensured Bangladesh reached their target in the final over with a total of 141 for four in 19.1 overs.
Earlier, the Netherlands began their tournament debut by winning the toss and choosing to bat. Their innings started under pressure from disciplined Bangladesh bowling, reducing them to 36 for two in the first five overs. Captain Babette de Leede top-scored with a resilient 50 from 45 balls, but the Dutch middle order struggled to counter the bowling attack and wickets fell regularly.
The Netherlands finished their innings at 139 for eight after 20 overs.
Juairiya Ferdous received the Player of the Match award for her half-century.
