Bangladesh beat Pakistan in last-over thriller to win ODI series
A gripping cricket evening unfolded at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, where Pakistan needed 14 runs in the final over with one wicket in hand, while Bangladesh needed just one wicket to seal victory. Ultimately, it was Bangladesh who emerged triumphant, securing a nail-biting 11-run win to clinch the ODI series against Pakistan.
With this victory, Bangladesh etched their name in history. The Tigers first won an ODI series against Pakistan in 2015 under Mashrafe Bin Mortaza's captaincy. Eleven years later, Mehidy Hasan Miraz's side repeated the feat, winning the series 2-1.
Tanzid's debut century sets big target
Batting first after losing the toss, Bangladesh made a magnificent start. Openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Saif Hassan built a 105-run partnership. Saif departed for 36 off 55 balls, but Tanzid remained unfazed, anchoring one end to score his maiden ODI century.
Tanzid reached his fifty in just 47 balls before completing his century off 98 deliveries. The left-handed opener's splendid innings of 107 off 107 balls included six fours and seven sixes. After his dismissal, Litton Das (41) and Towhid Hridoy (48*) propelled Bangladesh to a total of 290 runs.
Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy forged an excellent 68-run partnership for the fourth wicket, steering the team towards a substantial total. Litton fell to Haris Rauf after scoring 41 runs. Rishad Hossain was bowled on the very first ball he faced. Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten on 48 off 44 balls, accompanied by Afif Hossain who was not out on 5 runs.
Taskin-Rana pace onslaught
Chasing the target, Pakistan suffered early jolts from Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana. Taskin struck in his very first over, removing Sahibzada Farhan. In the next over, Nahid Rana sent Maz Sadaqat packing. In his second over, Taskin bowled Mohammad Rizwan, completely dismantling Pakistan's top order. Pakistan were in deep trouble at 17 for 3.
Salman's fight falls short
Despite losing five wickets before reaching 100, Salman Ali Agha single-handedly kept Pakistan in the hunt. He built a 79-run partnership with debutant Sad Masood. Although Masood departed for 38, Salman continued his onslaught, reaching a century off 89 balls. However, he couldn't last much longer after his hundred, falling prey to Taskin's slower delivery after a magnificent innings of 106 runs.
Following his dismissal, Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin extinguished Pakistan's hopes of victory. In the final over, Rishad Hossain bowled brilliantly to secure an unforgettable win for the team. Taskin finished with four wickets, Mustafizur claimed three, and Nahid took two.
For Pakistan, Haris Rauf was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Abrar and Shaheen Shah Afridi took one each.
With this series win, Bangladesh climbed to ninth place in the ICC ODI rankings, leapfrogging West Indies.
