Bangladesh beat Uganda in Women’s Kabaddi World Cup opener
Bangladesh began their campaign in the 2nd Women’s Kabaddi World Cup with a convincing 42-22 victory over African champions Uganda at Mirpur’s Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium on Monday (November 17).
Despite early pressure in the first half, defender-turned-raider Smriti Akter played a crucial role, helping Bangladesh take a narrow 14-12 lead at halftime. In the second half, Bangladesh dominated both attack and defense, scoring 28 points while restricting Uganda to 10.
Smriti, named Player of the Match, said, “It was challenging at first as we played Uganda for the first time. But we adapted and played well. We hope to continue this form in the coming matches and bring a medal for Bangladesh.”
Bangladesh will face Germany in their second Group A match on Tuesday at 5.00pm, while Uganda takes on Thailand simultaneously.
