Bangladesh begin WC qualifiers with win over USA
Returning to international T20 cricket after nearly a year, the Bangladesh women’s team made a winning start to the Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers in Nepal by defeating the United States by 21 runs.
On Sunday, January 18, Bangladesh, sent in to bat at Mulapani, posted 159 in 20 overs, their third-highest team total in T20s. Sharmin Akhter scored 63 off 39 balls for her maiden T20 fifty.
Chasing 159, the USA were restricted to 137 for nine. Nahida Akter was named player of the match after taking four wickets for 24 runs, while Ritu Moni claimed three wickets.
Bangladesh’s next match is on Tuesday against Papua New Guinea.
