Bangladesh bowled out for 272 in first innings
Bangladesh dreamed of a big total thanks to Shadman Islam’s century in the Mirpur Test, but could not deliver. A batting collapse at the start of day two saw the hosts lose their last seven wickets for just 59 runs, bundling Bangladesh out for 272 in the first innings.
Resuming day two on Thursday (October 29) at 213 for 3, Bangladesh saw opener Shadman Islam complete his third Test century with two runs in the first over of the day. However, he could not go much further after reaching the milestone. The left-hander was dismissed lbw by debutant Joshua Bishop after scoring 105.
Tawhid Hridoy fell soon after Shadman’s departure. He had retired hurt on 42 the previous day after suffering a muscle strain, and although he returned to bat on day two, he failed to add to his score. He was bowled by Bishop and returned to the pavilion.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz then tried to build the innings with Litton Das, but he was bowled by Jomel Warrican for 15. The pair had put on 32 runs in 71 balls.
After Miraz’s dismissal, Bangladesh’s innings collapsed even faster. Naeem Hasan edged a 141.2 kph delivery from Shamar Joseph to slip, departing for 5 off 12 balls. Hasan Mahmud fell to the same bowler for 6.
Towards the end, Taijul Islam was also dismissed off Warrican’s spin, caught by wicketkeeper Amir Jangoo. Litton Das, who kept fighting at the other end, remained unbeaten on 34 off 88 balls, including four boundaries.
Shadman Islam top-scored for Bangladesh with 105. Apart from Litton’s unbeaten 34, Miraz contributed 15. Warrican was the most successful bowler for the West Indies, taking 5 wickets for 53 runs. Shamar Joseph claimed three wickets, while debutant Joshua Bishop took two.
