Bangladesh break into Test rankings' top six for first time
Bangladesh have climbed to a historic sixth place in the ICC Test rankings, despite suffering an innings-and-51-run defeat to Australia in the second Test of the series.
The rise comes after Bangladesh secured a landmark nine-wicket victory in the series opener in Darwin—their first Test win on Australian soil and only their second victory over Australia in the format.
In the latest ICC rankings, Bangladesh have 1,878 points from 24 matches, with a rating of 78. They sit ahead of Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies and Zimbabwe.
Australia remain firmly at the top with a rating of 126, followed by South Africa on 119. New Zealand, India and England complete the top six.
Bangladesh's historic ranking surge caps a memorable series in which the Tigers made history in Darwin before being outplayed in the second Test at Mackay. Despite the setback, their performance across the series has lifted them to their highest-ever position in the Test rankings.
