Bangladesh has moved up three places in the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2025, ranking 35th this year, compared to 32nd last year. This improvement is due to a decrease in the impact of terrorist activities in the country.

The information was shared in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, which was released on Wednesday by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), a research group based in Sydney.

Since 2012, IEP has been publishing this index annually based on five-year data to measure global trends and characteristics of terrorism worldwide.

In its 12th edition, the IEP said that Bangladesh experienced less impact from terrorism in 2024 compared to India, Pakistan, and the regional average of South Asia.

In the 2025 GTI index, Bangladesh scored 3.03. The scoring ranges from zero to ten, with zero indicating no impact of terrorism and ten reflecting the highest level of terrorism.

This year, the IEP assessed 163 countries and ranked 100 based on the impact of terrorism. Bangladesh scored 3.03, placing it 35th, an improvement from its 32nd position last year.

The index is based on data like the number of terrorist attacks, deaths, injuries, and hostage situations over the past year.

The Sydney-based organization reported that terrorism continues to be a global threat. In 2024, the number of countries facing at least one terrorist attack increased from 58 to 66.
