Bangladesh has expressed deep concern about the security of shipping in the sea due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

At the same time, the country has called for strengthening diplomatic initiatives to keep global maritime trade safe and uninterrupted.

Bangladesh raised this position at the 36th special session of the Council of the International Maritime Organization in London. The emergency meeting was organized to discuss the situation in the Middle East and its global impact, the Bangladesh High Commission in London said.

The Bangladesh delegation was led by Deputy High Commissioner Nazrul Islam. He said that Bangladesh is deeply concerned about the safety and welfare of all seafarers around the world, including Bangladeshi seafarers working on ships in war-torn areas.

He also mentioned that Bangladesh reiterates its support for the free and lawful passage of all types of vessels in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The session called on all parties concerned to resolve the crisis through constructive dialogue and diplomatic negotiations, while also emphasizing global coordinated efforts to ensure safe maritime trade.
