Bangladesh condemns Israeli settlement expansion plan in West Bank

Bangladesh has strongly condemned Israel's plan to expand settlements in the E-1 area of the occupied West Bank.

The condemnation was made in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, September 10.

The statement said such actions by Israel are contrary to international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. These activities are further undermining the territorial integrity of the occupied Palestinian territory and the prospects for a viable two-state solution.

Bangladesh called on Israel to immediately stop all settlement activities in Palestinian territory. Dhaka also reiterated its unwavering support for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement called on the international community to intensify diplomatic efforts to establish a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East based on international law and the two-state solution. It also urged effective steps to prevent actions that undermine the prospect of establishing a Palestinian state.

Stating that Bangladesh stands by the Palestinian people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Bangladesh's support for their legitimate aspirations for freedom, dignity, justice and statehood will continue.
