Bangladesh confirm T20 World Cup qualification
Bangladesh women cricket team had already taken a big step towards the T20 World Cup main round by winning five consecutive matches in the qualifiers. This time, the team confirmed qualification with two Super Six matches still remaining, after the United States lost to the Netherlands.
In the rain-affected match, the United States batted first and scored 129 runs for seven wickets. In reply, the Netherlands reached 90 runs for two wickets in 12 overs before play was halted due to rain.
As the rain did not ease, the Netherlands were declared winners by 21 runs under the rain rule.
With this victory, the Netherlands have also secured qualification for the main round. As both teams now have six points each, Bangladesh’s World Cup qualification has been confirmed.
From the qualifiers, Scotland and Ireland are currently leading the race for the remaining two World Cup spots.
Meanwhile, the chances of the United States and Thailand, who are yet to earn any points, are considered almost over.
The T20 World Cup will be held in England and Wales in June-July.
