Bangladesh conveys concern to India over Sheikh Hasina's possible statement

Bangladesh has conveyed its concerns to India over a possible statement by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India. Dhaka has also sought New Delhi's cooperation on the matter.

The issue was discussed during a courtesy meeting between the Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir and newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Dinesh Trivedi at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon on Monday, August 3 .

The meeting covered bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India, various issues of mutual interest and future cooperation. During the discussions, the matter of Sheikh Hasina's possible statement on August 5, which has been circulating on social media, also came up.

Humayun Kabir informed the Indian High Commissioner that Bangladesh expects cooperation from India so that Sheikh Hasina, who is in India, or any individual from a banned organisation, does not use Indian territory to deliver political statements or carry out activities aimed at destabilising Bangladesh .

He said such activities could have an adverse impact on the existing positive relations between the two countries.

In response, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi assured that the matter would be considered seriously, necessary inquiries would be made, and efforts would be taken in this regard .

Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening Bangladesh-India relations based on mutual respect, trust and shared interests. They also emphasised finding long-term and sustainable solutions to all issues through regular dialogue and constructive engagement .
