Bangladesh suffered a 5-wicket loss to Afghanistan in the first match of the three-match ODI series at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on October 8, 2025.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh was bowled out for 221 runs in 48.5 overs, with a dismal performance from their top order.

Despite a solid 101-run partnership between Tawhid Hridoy (56) and Mehidy Miraz (60), the rest of the team failed to build on the foundation. Saif Hasan, Nurul Hasan Sohan, and Tanzim Sakib contributed minimal runs, leaving Bangladesh in a vulnerable position.

In response, Afghanistan chased down the target comfortably in 46.5 overs. Rahmat Shah (50) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (50) formed a crucial 78-run partnership that guided them to victory.

Afghan pace all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai and leg-spinner Rashid Khan each claimed three wickets, while Bangladesh's pacer Tanzim bagged three wickets in the chase but was unable to prevent the loss.
