The Bangladesh embassy in Doha and the Bangladesh community have expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the death of Qatar's former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

In a message of condolence on Sunday, July 12, the embassy said the visionary leader, who oversaw Qatar's unprecedented transformation, was a lifelong friend of Bangladesh and its expatriates. His statesman-like contributions will always be remembered.

The embassy extended condolences to Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani family, and the government and people of Qatar.

Sheikh Hamad ruled Qatar from 1995 until he stepped down in 2013, handing over power to his son, Sheikh Tamim. He was 74.
