Bangladesh Film Artistes Association election Friday
The Bangladesh Film Artistes Association (BFAA) is set to elect its new leadership for the 2026–2028 term on Friday (July 3), with voting scheduled to take place from 9:00am to 6:00pm at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises in Dhaka.
The election will see two full-fledged panels contesting key posts, including president and general secretary, while one independent candidate is also in the race.
The Arman–Mukti panel has nominated actor and fight director Arman for president and Rumana Islam Mukti for general secretary. Their panel also includes Nutan and Elias Kobra for vice-president, Rina Khan for joint secretary, Chunnu for organising secretary, M A Parvez Chowdhury Abir for international affairs secretary, Rasel Mia for office and publicity secretary, Maruf Aqib for cultural and sports secretary, and Kamal for treasurer.
The rival shiba shanu–Joy Chowdhury panel is led by actor Shiba Sanu for president and Joy Chowdhury for general secretary. Their team features Rozina and D A Tayeb for vice-president, Subrata for joint secretary, Sony Rahman for organising secretary, Poly for international affairs secretary, Jacky Alamgir for office and publicity secretary, Mosafqul Jamil Kakon for cultural and sports secretary, and Jadu Azad for treasurer.
Actor Yusuf Khan is contesting independently for the post of cultural and sports secretary.
A total of 27 candidates are vying for 11 executive committee positions, alongside the two panels and the independent contender. Prominent contestants include Aliraj, Yamin Haque Bobby, Kabila, Kayes Arju, Nasrin, Shirin Shila, Shamim Khan (Chikon Ali), Swapna Kashem, Hasan Jahangir and Hosne Ara Ria, among others.
A total of 573 eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots in the election. Kamal Md. Kibria Lipu will serve as the chief election commissioner.
Notably, outgoing president Misha Sawdagor and general secretary Monowar Hossain Dipjol, who led the association during the previous term, are not contesting this year's election, ensuring that the organisation will have a new leadership for the upcoming term.
