Rubaiyat Hossain’s The Difficult Bride has made history as the first Bangladeshi film to enter the main competition of the BFI London Film Festival in its 70-year history.

The film has been selected among 10 titles competing for the festival’s Best Film Award, according to British media outlet Variety. This year’s festival will run from October 7 to 18.

The Difficult Bride had earlier secured a place in the main competition at the Venice International Film Festival and was also selected for the Toronto International Film Festival, further strengthening its presence on the international festival circuit.

At London, the Bangladeshi film will compete against entries from Japan, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Argentina, Ireland, Italy, Poland and Denmark for the top prize.

The selection marks another major milestone for Bangladesh’s cinema, bringing a homegrown production to one of the world’s major film-festival stages.
