The Bangladesh national football team is finally returning home today, (Thursday, 11) after being stranded in Nepal for several days due to political unrest and flight suspensions.

The team arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Thursday morning and is scheduled to fly back to Dhaka on a special flight around 11:30 am. The repatriation has been arranged through the coordinated efforts of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), the Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu, and the Government of Bangladesh.

Journalists who had traveled to cover the Bangladesh-Nepal football series are also returning on the same flight.

The team had traveled to Kathmandu to play a two-match friendly series against Nepal. However, massive student-led protests erupted in Nepal on September 8, leading to the resignation of the country’s government and forcing the suspension of all flights from the afternoon of September 9 until Wednesday evening.

As a result, the second match of the series, scheduled for September 9, was canceled. The team attempted to return on the same day, but flight operations were halted, and their return had to be delayed. Players, including captain Jamal Bhuiyan and forward Rakib Hossain, were confined to their hotel for two days due to the uncertain situation.
