Bangladesh hand Tanzid Tamim debut after another toss defeat in Sylhet
Bangladesh have been sent in to bat once again in the second and final Test against Pakistan national cricket team after losing the toss at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday (May 16).
With the visitors aiming to clinch the series, Pakistan captain Shan Masood opted to field first after winning the toss, leaving Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side to begin proceedings with the bat, just as they did in the Mirpur Test.
Bangladesh made two changes to their playing XI, handing a Test debut to Tanzid Hasan Tamim, a left-handed opener, in place of Sadman Islam. Fast bowler Ebadot Hossain was dropped after an underwhelming outing in the previous Test, with left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam drafted into the side. Despite concerns over fitness, opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy retained his spot in the XI.
Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim handed over the debut cap to the youngster ahead of the match.
Pakistan, meanwhile, made three changes to their lineup. Star batter Babar Azam returned after missing the Mirpur Test due to injury concerns. Pacer Khurram Shehzad and spinner Sajid Khan were also included in the XI.
To accommodate the trio, opener Imam-ul-Haq, fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi and spinner Noman Ali were left out.
Bangladesh XI: Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das (wicketkeeper), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana.
Pakistan XI: Azan Awais, Shan Masood (captain), Babar Azam, Abdullah Fazal, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Salman Ali Agha, Khurram Shehzad, Sajid Khan, Hasan Ali and Mohammad Abbas.
