Bangladesh’s High Commission in Islamabad of Pakistan marked the Great Victory Day on Tuesday (December 16) with due solemnity and festive spirit, celebrating the historic occasion in a vibrant and dignified manner.

A series of programmes were organised at the High Commission complex, attended by its officials and staff, their family members, and members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community. The premises were decorated with Victory Day banners and posters, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the mission.

The day’s observance began in the morning with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag by High Commissioner Md Iqbal Hossain Khan, joined by mission officials and attendees. The formal programme commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the reading of messages from the President, the Chief Adviser, and the Adviser for Foreign Affairs.

As part of the celebrations, a documentary highlighting the significance of Victory Day and the history of Bangladesh’s Liberation War was screened.

Speakers at the discussion session reflected on the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters and the enduring importance of December 16 in Bangladesh’s national consciousness.

High Commissioner Md Iqbal Hossain Khan paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War, wounded freedom fighters, women who endured atrocities, families of the martyrs, and all those who contributed to the struggle for independence through sacrifice and resilience.

The High Commissioner also expressed profound respect for the students and citizens who were killed or injured during the July 2024 mass uprising, noting their role in the country’s ongoing democratic journey.

In his concluding remarks, Md Iqbal Hossain Khan described December 16 as a day of immense pride for the Bangalee nation.
