Bangladesh holds record for fastest Test win in Australia among Asian sides

In their third Test on Australian soil, Bangladesh made history. The Tigers beat Australia by nine wickets in Darwin, securing their first-ever win in Australia and also setting a record for the fewest Test matches played by an Asian team to win in Australia.

Bangladesh played a two-match Test series on their first tour of Australia in 2003. It took 23 years for them to get a second chance. After that long wait, Nazmul Hossain Shanto's side tasted victory on Australian soil in their third Test.

Pakistan took seven matches to secure their first Test win in Australia. India needed 12 Tests. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have played 15 Tests in Australia without a single win. Bangladesh's achievement in just their third Test is undoubtedly unique.

With Bangladesh's win, Australia lost a Test at home to an Asian team other than India for the first time in 31 years. The last time was in 1995, when Pakistan beat Australia at home. Since then, Pakistan have not won a Test in Australia either.

This is Bangladesh's second Test win against Australia in seven matches. The first came in 2017 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, under Shakib Al Hasan's captaincy.

However, the Darwin win is of a different magnitude. This time, on Australian soil, against a strong Australian side, Bangladesh dominated from the start, securing a comprehensive nine-wicket victory with a combined performance in batting, bowling and fielding.
