Despite raising hopes of victory in the first one-day international at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh ultimately suffered a defeat. Due to a lack of batting consistency, the Tigers fell behind 1-0 in the three-match series.

Batting first, New Zealand scored 247 runs for eight wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Henry Nicholls and Dean Foxcroft scored half-centuries for the visitors. After facing some early pressure, the team recovered through a 73-run partnership between Nicholls and Will Young.

For Bangladesh, Shariful Islam, Rishad Hossain and Taskin Ahmed each took two wickets.

Chasing a target of 248 runs, Bangladesh found themselves in trouble early on. The team came under pressure after Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Nazmul Hossain Shanto were dismissed quickly.

Saif Hassan (57) and Litton Das (46) then built a 93-run partnership for the third wicket, raising some hopes. However, after their departure, the batting line-up collapsed again.

Towhid Hridoy played a fighting innings of 55 runs towards the end, but he did not receive much support from the others. Afif Hossain scored 27 runs, but his knock was slow. Mehidy Hasan Miraz also could not make a significant contribution.

Ultimately, Bangladesh were bowled out for 221 runs in 48.3 overs. As a result, the team had to start the series with a defeat.

Now the challenge for the Tigers is to bounce back in the next match.
