Bangladesh has announced its first-ever auction of the 700 MHz spectrum, a key band for enhancing nationwide 4G and 5G coverage.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued the official radio frequency auction guidelines today, with the competitive auction scheduled for January 14, 2026 for commercial operators.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the interim government, confirmed the development through a Facebook post on Saturday (November 29).

He noted that the band had long been the subject of “controversy and conspiracy,” but the government has now set a base price designed to safeguard at least Tk 11,000 crore in state revenue.

The 700 MHz spectrum is expected to significantly improve network quality in densely populated areas and boost rural and urban coverage for next-generation mobile services.
