Iran’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi has said Dhaka will have to coordinate with Tehran to ensure the safe passage of Bangladeshi ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

He said at a press conference organised at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka on Wednesday (November 4) that Iran’s directives will have to be followed in the case of ship movement through the Strait of Hormuz.

The ambassador said no country will be able to safely transport fuel through this strategic waterway without coordination with the Iranian authorities. He said, “Iran’s prescribed directives must be followed to pass through Hormuz.”

He also said he is working to ensure the safe passage of fuel-carrying ships for Bangladesh.

When asked whether any Bangladeshi ship has already crossed the Strait of Hormuz, the ambassador said confidential information in this regard is only with the concerned officials.

Regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz he said Iran, Qatar and Oman have a plan in this regard. However, the withdrawal of the US naval blockade against Iran and the assurance of no further attacks in the future are the two main conditions for this.

Jalil Rahimi further said if the Rohingya Muslims take a stand against the United States and Israel, Iran will support them.

Expressing scepticism about the possibility of talks with Washington, he also spoke of the fear of a third world war. The ambassador said Iran is prepared for any conflict.

He warned that if a nuclear attack is carried out on Iran, the United States and Israel will be given an equal reply.
