Bangladesh name 24-member squad for U-20 Junior Asia Cup Hockey

Bangladesh Hockey Federation has announced a 24-member squad for the U-20 Junior Asia Cup Hockey Championship, scheduled to be held in China in September.

The young Bangladesh side will compete under South African head coach Giles Bonnet. The squad features three goalkeepers, eight defenders, six midfielders and seven forwards.

Goalkeepers: Md Mahmud Hasan, Md Raihanul Islam and Md Mehedi Hasan Jinnat.

Defenders: Md Mehedi, Md Munna Islam, Sumanta Chakma, Md Sabbir Rahman, Md Amit Hasan, Md Shamim Ahmed, Md Tarek Islam and Md Tayeb Ali.

Midfielders: Md Tanvir Rahman Siam, Md Sohrab Hossain Soton, Md Ashraful Alam, Md Shimul Islam, Md Sabbir Hossain Konok and Md Bishal Ahmed.

Forwards: Md Jony Islam, Md Ismail Hossain, Md Abdullah, Md Mahadi Hasan, Md Din Islam, Md Rifat and Md Tawsan Hossain.

The Junior Asia Cup is particularly important as it serves as a pathway to qualification for the upcoming U-21 Junior Hockey World Cup. Bangladesh will therefore be aiming not only for a strong campaign in China but also to secure a place at the global tournament.

With a young squad facing some of Asia’s strongest junior sides, Bangladesh Hockey Federation is hopeful of a competitive campaign, while the players are determined to make the most of the opportunity and deliver a strong performance on the continental stage.
