Bangladesh PM invited for bilateral visit to India: Randhir Jaiswal

India has formally invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for a bilateral visit. He has also been invited to participate in the BRICS summit.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the information while responding to a journalist's question at the regular weekly briefing in Delhi on Friday, August 14.

During the briefing, Randhir Jaiswal said, "We have extended an invitation to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for a bilateral visit. He has also been invited by India to participate in the outreach session of the BRICS summit. The invitations have already been conveyed. Any further developments on this will be shared later."

During the same briefing, the spokesperson also outlined India's position on energy supplies to Bangladesh. When asked about Bangladesh's ongoing energy crisis and the request for additional energy assistance, he said India is positively considering the matter of energy supply to Bangladesh.

Randhir Jaiswal said, "We have an ongoing agreement with Bangladesh for diesel supply, which is still in effect. The request for additional supply will be reviewed considering India's domestic demand, our refining capacity, and the overall availability of diesel in the country."
