Bangladesh rejects Indian media claim of terror plot originating from its soil
Bangladesh has rejected claims by Indian media that Hafiz Saeed, chief of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, plotted attacks in India using Bangladeshi territory.
Foreign Affairs Adviser to the interim government Md Touhid Hossain said there was no reason to believe such reports.
“Whatever happens, the media will try to blame us. But there is no reason to believe it. No sensible person will,” he told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday evening.
Several international media outlets reported that at least eight people were killed and many others injured in a car explosion near the Red Fort in New Delhi on Monday, November 10. Following the blast, a nationwide alert was issued in India.
Citing intelligence sources, a report by the Times of India claimed that Hafiz Saeed plotted the attack using Bangladeshi territory.
Meanwhile, on the same day, a suicide blast occurred outside the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad, Pakistan, killing at least 12 people and injuring 27 others.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the preliminary investigation found that the suicide attacker had tried to enter the court premises but, failing to do so, targeted a police vehicle instead.
