Bangladesh sending aid to flood-landslide victims in Nepal

The government of Bangladesh has taken an initiative to send relief materials as humanitarian assistance for the people affected by the devastating landslides and sudden floods in Nepal.

A press release said the relief materials include tents, mosquito nets, dry food packets, torch lights, shovels, sleeping bags, water containers and body bags among others on Thursday.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman had said Bangladesh is ready to provide any assistance as needed to Nepal.

Khalilur Rahman spoke over phone with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal on Thursday morning. During the conversation he conveyed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s full solidarity to the government and people of Nepal.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the devastating sudden floods in Nepal has risen to 289. The country’s local media ‘The Kathmandu Post’ reported that several hundred people are still missing in various flood-affected areas.

According to information from Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, a total of 826 people including local residents, security personnel and tourists are still missing. Of them, a total of 644 are tourists including 127 Nepalis and 517 foreign nationals. Besides, 44 personnel of the Nepal Army, 28 police personnel and 13 members of Nepal’s Armed Police Force are also on the list of the missing.
