Bangladesh sent to bowl first in 1st ODI against New Zealand
Bangladesh were sent to the field after losing the toss in the first ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand.
The day-night match at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium is set to begin at 11:00am (local time).
The early start comes as part of efforts by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to align with government measures aimed at conserving electricity and fuel.
New Zealand, meanwhile, have arrived with a relatively inexperienced squad, missing several first-choice players due to commitments in franchise leagues. Bangladesh, in contrast, are fielding a full-strength side on home soil.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the home side, with Tom Latham in charge of Kiwis.
Historical trends also favour the hosts. Since 2004, New Zealand have failed to win the opening match of a series in Bangladesh, losing first games in their 2008, 2010 and 2013 tours, while the corresponding fixture in 2023 was washed out.
The series holds added significance for Bangladesh as they look to strengthen their position for direct qualification to the 2027 ICC World Cup.
