Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first against New Zealand on the first day of the second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.

Having secured a 150-run victory in the first Test of the series, the Tigers entered this match with aspirations of clinching the series—potentially marking their inaugural Test series triumph over New Zealand.

Bangladesh fielded an unchanged playing XI, while New Zealand made a change opting for Mitchel Santer in the place of Ish Sodhi. However, Bangladesh have struggled against the Kiwi bowlers in the opening season. The Tigers went to lunch with 80 runs loss of 4 wickets.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy (14), Zakir Hasan (8), Mominul Haque (5) and captain Najmul Hasan Shanto (9) returned to the pavilion. Mushfiqur Rahim and Shahadat Hossain are not out with 18 and 14 respectively.

For New Zealand, Ajaj Patel and Mitchell Santner captured two wickets each.
