Bangladesh suffer innings defeat in Colombo Test
The signs of trouble appeared on the second day and turned into a bitter reality on the morning of the fourth day. Bangladesh lost the Colombo Test to Sri Lanka by an innings and 78 runs. Even with nearly two days of play remaining, the Tigers couldn’t avoid a crushing defeat.
Bangladesh scored 247 runs in their first innings. In reply, Sri Lanka made 458 runs, taking a lead of 211. The Tigers' batters couldn’t recover from that huge deficit. In their second innings, Bangladesh were all out for just 133 runs. As a result, they lost the match by an innings margin.
On the morning of Day 4, Bangladesh needed at least 96 runs to avoid an innings defeat. But when Litton Das got out in just the second over, hopes started to fade. Soon after, Nayeem, Taijul, and Ebadot also got out. Bangladesh's innings lasted only 34 balls on the fourth morning.
After drawing the Galle Test, Bangladesh looked completely out of form in Colombo. Their performance in both batting and bowling was disappointing. The Tigers couldn’t put up a fight against the strong Sri Lankan side.
With this win, Dhananjaya de Silva’s team secured the series 1–0. Sri Lanka also earned full points in the Test Championship. Meanwhile, even after 25 years of playing Test cricket, Bangladesh continue to struggle.
